Our habits define our lives. They can make us or break us.
Habits are at the core of the life we are living. Some habits can make you a better person, while others can shatter your life. A bad habit comes with a bunch of other bad habits, and it destroys your life. Similarly, a good habit comes with other good habits that enhance your life and take it to the next level.
Today, we discuss one such habit that can help you develop a positive attitude towards life, grow as a human being and make substantial progress in life. Most of the world’s successful people have this habit in common. And if you develop this habit, you can also move forward in your life and make it big. This habit is “READING”.
Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary. — Jim Rohn
Reading is a habit that can turn you into a better and more evolved person. It helps you in your personal growth and well-being. It expands your knowledge and improves your memory and concentration. It’s a kind of workout for your brain. It enhances your vocabulary and boosts your creativity. It helps you become better at communication, and hence, it can improve your relationships. It makes you optimistic, and inspires you to take action whenever you feel down and discouraged.
I can relate to this because of my own experience. I graduated from college and was looking desperately for a job. But I kept on failing. I could not find any job for about two to three months after college. I was disheartened, lost all my hope, and was very frustrated.
And that was the time when my father handed me a book named “You Can Win” by Shiv Khera. He asked me to read the book while I was free. It was the first book I read, apart from my academic studies. As I started reading the book, I felt a spark of energy moving through me. I was inspired to take action no matter what. After reading that book, I was filled with positivity and looked at things differently.
I started learning and focusing on some required and essential things to help me in the interview process. And after around fifteen days of hard work, I went for an interview. And guess what? I was selected. I received an appointment letter. And I had a job by the end of one month of reading that book. Such is the power of books.
This was my beginning with reading books. After that, I have read several books and it has helped me a lot in my life. It has helped me in my bad phases when my life was completely shattered, and I couldn’t see any meaning in life. Reading has made me understand what life is about and how we can navigate through the tough times in life.
There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates’ loot on Treasure Island and best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life. — Walt Disney
If you are not into the reading habit, I urge you to at least give it a try and develop a reading habit. Start with small. If you can’t read ten pages a day, read five. And if you can read five pages, read one page. But start with it. And I assure you, over time, you will enjoy the process, and reading will become a part of your daily routine. It will help you raise your spirits and move forward in your life. It will help you grow and evolve into a better person.
