Do We Create the Society or the Society Creates Us?

Once there was a poor boy who was found stealing some eatables from a big grocery store. The store owner caught him with the help of CCTV cameras. The store owner already had a team for handling the legal matters. And they decided to present the boy in the courtroom. They asked the judge to punish the boy so that he will never repeat such an act. The judge asked the boy whether it’s true that he stole the things in the store. The boy politely replied in a low tone, “Yes, my Lord. I do accept that I did that.” The judge asked the next question that why did you do this. The boy explained, “Sir, I worked as a petrol pump attendant. And my father’s health was not so good recently. So, I had to take some leaves from job in order to take care of my father. But the petrol pump owner fired me. And then I had no money left. So, in order to feed me and my family, I had to this.” The judge asked him why he did not ask for help to anyone. The boy said, “I did ask for help to several people, but none of them helped me. And then I was not able to think of any other option except for stealing the food”. The judge was moved by the boy’s situation. The judge thought for a while and then ordered the store owner to pay 100 dollars to the boy and all the other people present in the court room to pay 10 dollars each. And the judge himself paid him 20 dollars. The judge explained that it is not the boy’s fault. But in fact we all are responsible for his situation. The society is responsible for his current situation. We have made this society where we don’t even help the one in need. It is our responsibility to be kind and generous and always be helpful to someone in need. Let’s all come together and build a society that is always humble and compassionate, so that there can be no room for such cases. It’s our duty to serve the humanity.
