Morality and loyalty are the two most primary values if you want to live a successful life. But what will happen if you have to choose only one out of them or the two of them are contrary to you. What will be your priority? Let me give you an example.
Maureen was working as a salesperson for a highly reputed insurance company. She was a very ethical person. And she had always lived on her ethics and values. Also, she was a very loyal employee of the company. She always looked for the best interests of her clients before she would sell them an insurance policy. One day the company launched a new policy that appeared very lucrative to the clients, but will not serve them in the long run. It will only increase the commission rates and the company’s profit and not much beneficial for the clients. Maureen was forced to sell that policy above all others. She knew that it was not she would like to sell to her clients. It was not going to provide much value to her clients compared to other policies. Her ethics and morality forced her not to sell the policy and she finally left the job. She chose morality above loyalty.
Also, there are other kind of people who will choose loyalty over morality. They will do anything for the company. They will sell anything to the clients knowing that it will increase the company’s revenues and it will be ultimately beneficial to them also. These people will not see the interest of the client, they will only focus on what’s good for the company’s profit line.
Both these values are highly essential in today’s world. But when it comes to choosing only one out of them, it's a question of your values. What will you prioritise? Will you risk losing your job to keep your values alive or will you choose to sell anything that is not useful to the clients, just to increase the company’s revenues?
Morality is always ethical, it is in the best interest of people around you. While loyalty is also a good and required value. But when your loyalty is confined to a particular group or company or organisation, it can cause you to live unethically, choosing only the interest of that company or organisation and overlooking the interest of the people around you.
What will you choose, the interest of a certain group of people or the interest of humanity? You always have a choice. Choose it wisely.
